Everyone knows how to do something that others can benefit from
learning. Fortunately, creating an article on wikiHow is not as
difficult as you might think, and who knows? You may eventually
want to polish your contribution into a
featured article! Here's
how to get started.
-
Click on the "Write
an Article" link at the upper right of any page on
wikiHow.
-
Submit the title for the article you'd like to write.
Remember that this is a how-to, so the first word has to be a verb!
E.g. "How to Walk a Dog" not "How to Dog Walking". Don't include
the "How to" in the title. Press the "Submit" button.
- We allow articles on most topics, but to maintain
quality, we also have a deletion policy in place that's been
revised by the community. If you're not sure whether your topic is
appropriate for wikiHow, check the deletion policy to make
sure.
-
If the title you chose is already taken, join the collaborative
effort and add your knowledge to the existing
page.
-
If there are similar titles on wikiHow already, check to make sure
the title you submitted isn't interchangeable with any of the
titles we already have on wikiHow. If it is, click on the article
that we already have on that topic and edit! Or,
change the title of your article so that it's more specific.
-
Start writing! Try to make your writing clear, but don't
focus on having perfect spelling
and grammar right now. You
can check later, and your article will be reviewed by other
contributors who might catch anything you missed! Just do your best
to make your instructions as clear and specific as you can.
Write an introduction, summarizing for the reader what you're going
to be showing them how to do, and why they might want to do it!
Also, start every step with an action verb; remember that the
numbers are automatically inserted every time you press Enter on
your keyboard, so you don't need to add them yourself.
-
Preview your article. Press the blue "Preview" button at the
bottom of the page to see what your article will look like. Check
to make sure it reads the way you want it to. Fill in any
information that you might've forgotten to include while you were
first writing the article.
-
Submit your article. When you're satisfied with the way the
article looks, press the blue "Save page" button. Congratulations!
You've just started a page on wikiHow.
- Watch the page grow. Since wikiHow is a collaborative
writing project, the article you started will likely be contributed
to by many people with various talents and knowledge. An article
with a good start will become even more comprehensive and helpful
over time! Participate in the article's discussion page, and enjoy
having helped build the world's largest collaborative how-to
manual!
