wikiHow:In Memory of Ari
Ari
On Sunday, June 22, wikiHow lost a great friend and community
member, "Ari"
Arístides Herrera Cuntti.
He passed away peacefully in his home in Chincha, Peru. Ari was the
most prolific contributor on
Spanish wikiHow. He created hundreds of articles,
improved many others and helped other Spanish language editors.
Ari loved good food and drink, especially that of his native Peru
and shared that love with others by writing many articles on
preparing Peruvian specialties such as Pisco sour cocktails, choritos a la
chalaca, shrimp and fish and other types of
ceviches, anticuchos
(skewers), and many more. In addition to local specialties, Ari
also shared many other recipes and cooking tips for foods from
around the world. His writing also included articles on preparing for an
earthquake, painting a
home inexpensively and many other topics. And as can be seen by
the many red links on his user page, there were
many more articles he planned to create.
In addition to being a prolific author, Ari was a kind and modest
man, with a good sense of humor. When he received a
Barnstar plaque
from wikiHow for his many valued contributions, he proudly
displayed it, while claiming that it was certainly undeserved. He
worked serving drinks at several Pisco Sour festivals in Ica, but
wrote that he didn't know if his drinks were good or if the people
having them were just drunk. Ari made several edits on wikiHow the
day he died. His daughter, in her note to inform the wikiHow
community of his passing, wrote that he died doing what he enjoyed
most, writing, thinking and reading.
The wikiHow community, and the world, is both richer for having had
Ari in it, and poorer for having lost him.
