wikiHow:The wiki Wanted Project

The wikiWanted Project....

Introducing Requests to wikiHow

[edit]What is the Project

The wikiWanted Project was designed to help improve wikiHow by providing more articles that people around the globe want...These are known as Requests. Because wikiHow is different to many wiki's in that we provide a resource where passers by and registered users can request a Topic to be covered, this could be for any reason, such as School Project, Common Knowledge or simply the Human earge to learn.

Each day wikiHow gets numerouse requests, and each day the total number of requests rises. That is where the wikiWanted Project comes into play.

The goal is to reduce the number of requested articles on the List of Suggested Topics to a minimum, therefore actively increasing the number of current articles in wikiHow's library. Each time a Suggested Topic is posted, the person is in need of advice which wikiHow was not providing at that time. By keeping up to speed, we can help the world become a brighter and more knowledgeable place.

[edit]Who can help?

Anyone can join the wikiWanted Project. There are no set requirements, however, we ask that you have a basic understand of some of the tools. If you don't, we are more than happy to assist you by providing How to's on the subject.

In saying this, you may wonder what we actually do. Well, the Project is divided into Leaders, Contributers and Researchers. Each can do most of the jobs at hand, however, each has a highly unique purpose that suits different people and not others.

Researcher

Are you good and finding information on subjects that you are not necessarily familar with? Are you good at organising information and have a nack for anti-plagurisim? If so, you could try your hand at being a wWP Researcher.

Researchers simply find the information for potential articles so as they can be answered and made into comprehensible articles. They don't require to be FA material, but simply, to the point and instructional.

Contributer

Writing articles is what you most enjoy. Being able to let your fingers do the work while you learn a new topic or improve on one. If this sounds like you, why not help out as a wWP Contributer.

Though anyone can write articles, contributers have the task of primarily writing requests so they are readable and comprehensible. As above, they don't require to be FA material, but as a Contributer, you have the oportunity to make it into one. Articles also need Photos, so knowledge on this is useful.

Leader

Are you familiar with Need For Deletion Proceedures? Are you good at searching for duplicates and have a knack for Spelling, Gramatical and Punctuation errors? You might just be a potential wWP Leader.

Leaders have the task of tagging requests for NFD. Most simply, you have the task of sorting through the Requests, and one by one evaluating it. Note: Being an Administrator, you also have the ability to finalise the proceedure and delete them. We have Admins who help out with this part of the Leaders Roles.

If you are considering becoming a Leader for the Project, please read Roles Of Leaders for more information.

Finally, if you Do consider becoming a Leader, a Contributer or a Researcher, please inform Amy, so as she can place your name in the Category.

What Do The Leaders Do?

Each Category Leader is responsible for selecting a New Suggestion from their category, for collaboration. They may also wish to keep up-to-date with the Suggested Topics Page for their chosen category, checking for articles that may have already been written, or Titles with Incorrect Spelling or Punctuation. All incomprehensible requests should be rephrased or nominated for deletion, so that good workable and useful requests are easier to find. Leaders, please be aware that you need to be available to answer questions and if you are unable to answer them, simply forward them to me, and I'll try to help.

Because the Suggested Topics have not been written, there is no need to place tags or templates to show other users that the article is a current Article being worked on or edited. However, we do still need to show the wikiHow Community what Suggested Article is being edited, so others can help out. The leaders are encouraged to place the Current Article on the Planning Page, which can be found towards the bottom of this page. To do this, you should type:

[[''' Name-Of-Article''']]

Leaders are also responsible for Tagging Suggestions that are already written or that have incorrect spelling, punctuation or grammar. Instructions on NFD Tags, and Guildlines can be found in these Articles. Nominate an Article For Deletion in wikiHow and wikiHow Deletion Policy

[edit]Why did the Project start?

History

wWP Leader Amy submitted her first request upon joining wikiHow, and one of her first articles was a Request she had written. After a bit of time spent on wikiHow, an idea started to spring into mind. A method for requests to be answered based on the wikiHow Goal wikiHow is a collaborative writing project to build the world's largest, highest quality how-to manual for tis to be a success, each article has to be the single most comprehensible article within wikiHow. It can be concluded, that because there is a large amount of Suggested Articles. it stands to show that:-

1. There are a limited amount of current users editing suggested topics. (Hence the need for this Project).

2. The current users do not have the knowledge to write the articles in a clear and step-by-step method. This is why research is required to ensure all information is correct, true and people are not just taking a "wild guess".

3. Because the upwards increase of requests is rising, sutable requests are getting jumbled into a sea of suggestions, making it harder for users and newbies to find an article that is not already written and that they are familiar with.

[edit]How are we doing?

Leaders, please be aware that a Tally of Suggestions will be being constructed by Me, this is to provide results of how the wikiWanted Project is going, and how much of an impact we are doing.

At the beginning of each month, a tally of the Current Amount Of Suggested Articles in each Category will be here. This will show us how much of a change we are making, it will be slow at first, but hopefully we get more and more up-to-date on answering old suggestions as we go along.

Results Of Project

Can leader's please be sure at the end of a month or start of a new month, that they look at the Number of Suggestion in their Category. I will send out a reminder for the first few months, but as time progresses, please tell me what the Current Number of Suggested Articles is, or enter them yourselves by going to the Results Of Project.
